Adriaan Oosthuizen is the HOD of the Environmental Engineering department and is supported by a team of passionate and highly competent individuals comprising of engineers, a technician, a technologist and a scientist. The group services primarily the mining and industrial sectors, helping their clients develop solutions for mine closure, mine rehabilitation and clean and dirty water separation systems.
Adriaan obtained his BEng in Civil Engineering from the University of Pretoria in 1998. After that, he completed a BEng Honours (Water Resources) at the University of Pretoria in 2003.
He joined Jones & Wagener as a civil engineer, head of department and a technical director in the Environmental Engineering department in 2011. In 2015 Adriaan was promoted to Director (Alternate) and promoted to Director in February 2022.
Adriaan’s involvement in mine closure and rehabilitation projects include determining financial provisions for closure, opencast pit and dump rehabilitation designs, and detailed environmental risk assessments. His involvement in developing clean and dirty water separation systems includes clean and dirty stormwater canals, pollution control dams, pump stations, and pipelines. In addition, Adriaan has extensive engineering and project management experience in the various project phases ranging from conceptual designs through to construction supervision and management.
Adriaan’s team at Jones & Wagener was awarded the IAIAsa award for “Predictive Rehabilitation Designs” in 2013.
Adriaan has published five conference papers related to Mine Closure and Rehabilitation, of which he co-authored two. He has also presented these at various local and international conferences.
He is a Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), a member of SAICE and a member of the Land Rehabilitation Society of Southern Africa (LaRSSA).
