February 2019 saw the collapse of a bridge at Hoërskool Driehoek in Vanderbijlpark Park resulting in the tragic death of 4 pupils. This tragic event altered the lives of the families of those who died in incident.

Following the devastating aftermath Jones & Wagener (Pty) Ltd were approached by the Principal of Secunda High School. We undertook the work at no cost to the school. Our structural engineers carried out a visual inspection of a suspended walkway which connects the first floors of an admin building with a classroom building.

The purpose was to assess the structural integrity of the walkway. Unfortunately, no engineering or as built drawings were available. There were no major defects identified in the structure, and our analysis indicated that the members have adequate structural capacity even with some deterioration considered. Some maintenance and refurbishment of the structure has been recommended.
