Taaibosch Puts Energy Cluster: Consultation Environmental Impact Reports available for public review

Jones & Wagener (Pty) Ltd Engineering and Environmental Consultants (J&W) is conducting the respective permitting processes, including respective applications for Environmental Authorisation (EA) (EIAs and Basic Assessments, as applicable) and where relevant Atmospheric Emissions Licensing (AEL) for the proposed Taaibosch Puts Energy Cluster.

The Taaibosch Puts Energy Cluster consist of several projects:

• Kora I-IV Solar PV Energy Facilities
• Koraqua I-V Solar PV Energy Facilities
• Khoemana Wind Energy Facility
• Gorachouqua I and II Wind Energy Facilities
• Korakobab Green Hydrogen Facility
• Kei Korana Green Ammonia Facility
• Electrical Grid Infrastructure for the various components of the project

The proposed projects are located approximately 6 km west of Lime Acres, 28 km south-west of Danielskuil and 30 km east of Postmasburg in the Tsantsabane Municipality, Northern Cape. The proposed components collectively comprise approximately 11 855 ha.

The applications are undertaken in terms of the 2014 Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) regulations (as amended) in terms of Section 24 of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), Act 107 of 1998 (as amended), the National Water Act (NWA), Act 36 of 1998 (as amended) and the National Environmental Management Air Quality Act (NEM: AQA), Act 39 of 2004.

The Competent Authority for the application for the proposed Korakobab Green Hydrogen Facility and Kei Korana Green Ammonia Facility is the Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Environmental Affairs, Rural Development and Land Reform (DAEARD&LR). The CEIRs and the Atmospheric Impact Report (AIR) for these specific components of the project are available from 19 October to 20 November 2023. The reports for the other components of the project will be available at a later stage.

Public comment encouraged

Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) are invited to participate by providing written comments and raising any issues of concern that they may have.
