Notice of the successful application for a Water Use Licence (WUL) for the proposed Infrastructure and Mining Development at Vandyksdrift Central (VDDC) Section of Middelburg Mine Services South (previously referred to as Wolvekrans Colliery) for Seriti Power (Pty) Ltd in Emalahleni Local Municipality 

Seriti Power (Pty) Limited  has been successful in their application for a Water Use Licence (WUL) for the infrastructure and mining development at the Vandyksdrift Central (VDDC) section of their Middelburg Mine Services South section (previously referred to as Wolvekrans Colliery).

The WUL was granted in terms of Section 40 of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998, NWA). The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has issued the licence on 4 July 2022 for the following water uses:

Section 21(c) and 21(i) of the Act:             Impeding or diverting the flow of water in a watercourse; and altering the bed, banks,                                                                      course or characteristics of a watercourse.

Section 21(g) of the Act:                            Disposing of waste in a manner which may detrimentally impact on a water                                                                                      resource.

Section 21(j) of the Act:                             Removing, discharging or disposing of water found underground if it is necessary for                                                                        the efficient continuation of an activity or for the safety of people.

Interested and Affected Parties who wish to appeal the decision granted by the DWS, may lodge an appeal in terms of Section 148 of the NWA.
