Glencore iMpunzi dewatering pipeline WULA


NOTICE OF THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICATION FOR A WATER USE LICENCE FOR THE PROPOSED DEWATERING PIPELINE AT IMPUNZI MINE COMPLEX IN THE MPUMALANGA PROVINCE

Glencore Operations South Africa (Pty) Ltd (GOSA) has been successful in their application for a Water Use Licence (WUL) for the proposed construction of a dewatering pipeline at the iMpunzi Mine Complex in the Mpumalanga Province.

The WUL was granted in terms of Section 40 of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act 36 of 1998, NWA). The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has issued the licence on 25 August 2023 for the following water uses:

The following water use activities are being applied for in terms of the NWA:

Section 21 (c) Impeding or diverting the flow of water in a watercourse
Section 21 (i) Altering the bed, banks, course or characteristics of a watercourse

Interested and Affected Parties who wish to appeal the decision granted by the DWS, may lodge an appeal in terms of Section 148 of the NWA.
