Environmental Authorisation application process for the proposed Gecko Wind Energy Facility near Hotazel in the Northern Cape Province

Environmental Authorisation granted
Environmental Authorisation (EA) was granted for the development of the Gecko Wind Energy Facility (WEF) near Hotazel in the Northern Cape Province. The development is proposed on the following properties within the Joe Morolong Local Municipality:
- Remainder Extent of Farm Eldoret 274;
- Farm Mt Vera 319;
- Farm England 318;
- Remainder Extent of Farm Riries 320; and
- Portion 1 of Farm Riries 320.
The EA (can be accessed from the link below) was granted to K2022578438 (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) on 03 November 2025, in terms of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No.107 of 1998) as amended and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations – GNR 982 to GNR 985 of 4 December 2014, as amended.
Should any party wish to appeal any aspect of the decision, an appeal must be submitted to the appeal administrator, and a copy of the appeal to the applicant within 20 days of the date the EA was sent to Interested and Affected Parties.
