Waste Department – Waste Engineer

Description:

Our Waste Engineering team covers the entire spectrum of the project lifecycle that includes concept and feasibility studies, design, procurement and construction management, advice, on-going operation monitoring and rehabilitation of commercial waste disposal facilities, mining waste and industrial waste. We are currently looking for a self-motivated Waste Engineer to join our Waste Department and contribute to new and existing projects. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team in a mid-level position, based in our head office (Rivonia) on a full-time basis.

The requirements associated with the position are as follows (mandatory):

  • Min 5 years of relevant experience
  • B Eng or BSc Eng in Civil Engineering
  • Good understanding and knowledge of soil mechanics
  • Good understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards
  • Candidate should be proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook and MS PowerPoint
  • Slope stability software proficiency, such as Geostudio
  • AutoCad Civil 3D or ModelMaker proficiency

Preference to candidates with the following skills and attributes:

  • Honours degree in relevant field
  • Professional Engineer Registration
  • Project management experience
  • Good critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Good communication skills, fluent in English
  • Dynamic, self-motivated, takes responsibility and ownership of tasks
  • Able to manage time effectively
  • Attention to detail

The main duties associated with the position include the following:

  • Design and design reviews of barrier and capping systems for waste management facilities and associated infrastructure
    • Modelling basal and final landforms
    • Global and veneer stability assessments
    • Stormwater, leakage, leachate conveyance and storage facilities
    • Designing with geosynthetics
  • Life assessments and monitoring of operational waste facilities
  • Delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, quantities, cost and schedule.
  • Preparing reports and technical notes
  • Engage with various stakeholders – including clients and the authorities
  • Mentor junior engineers
  • Keep up with latest developments in the waste industry and improve knowledge base

Salary package:
