Wolvekrans Northern Section Expansion - EA, Mining Rights and WUL Application

Consultation Environmental Impact Report (CEIR) and draft Integrated Water Use Licence Application (IWULA) available for public review and comment

Jones & Wagener (Pty) Ltd Engineering and Environmental Consultants (J&W) has been appointed by South32 SA Coal Holdings (Pty) Ltd to undertake the application for an Environmental Authorisation and a Water Use Licence for the proposed expansion of Wolvekrans Colliery’s North Section (previously known as Middelburg Mine North).

An application for an Environmental Authorisation was submitted to the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) on 13 April 2016, and was assigned the following reference number: (MP) 30/5/1/2/3/2/1 (379) EM.

The Scoping Report was previously made available for public review and comment. The competent authority, the Department of Mineral Resources has accepted the Scoping Report on 26 September 2016. As such the Scoping phase for the proposed project has been concluded and the Impact Assessment phase has commenced.

Specialist studies were conducted as part of the Impact Assessment phase. The findings of the specialist studies have been integrated in the Consultation Environmental Impact Report (EIR) which is available for your review and comment. As an appendix to the Consultation EIR, the draft Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) is also available. Also included for review and comment is the draft Integrated Water Use Licence Application Report (IWULA).

The Consultation EIR, draft EMPr and draft IWULA Report are available for public review and comment from Friday, 4 November to Monday, 5 December 2016 at the public places listed below:
