Final Scoping Report available for review

Jones & Wagener (Pty) Ltd Engineering and Environmental Consultants (J&W) has been appointed by South32 SA Coal Holdings (Pty) Limited (South32) as the independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner (EAP) to undertake the required applications for the development of additional infrastructure to support proposed opencast mining at their Vandyksdrift Central (VDDC) operation.

The revised Consultation Scoping Report was available for review from 7 August to 9 September 2019. The report was finalised and no significant changes were made. The Final Scoping Report has been submitted to the competent authority, the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR) for their review and decision-making. COMMENTS ON THE FINAL SCOPING REPORT

Interested and Affected Parties are requested to submit any further comments on the Final Scoping Report to the DMR and to copy the public participation office – see contact details below. Comments on the Final Scoping Report will be considered with the compilation of the Consultation Environmental Impact Assessment Report (CEIAR).

WAY FORWARD

The way forward will include the following steps:

  • Stakeholders will be notified of the decision by the DMR regarding the Scoping Report; and
  • Upon acceptance of the Scoping Report, the CEIAR and Environmental Management Programme (EMPr), including the Waste Management Licence Report, will be finalised and made available for public review. During this review period a stakeholder meeting will be held to discuss the contents of the reports, which will also detail the specialist assessment findings.
