Jones & Wagener in joint venture with Moore Spence Jones were responsible for the planning and execution of the two phases of geotechnical investigation of the preferred site for the smelter. This included remote sensing, test pitting, drilling, as well as large scale pile load, heave and materials workability trials. Reports were issued on: (a) Topographical Survey, (b) Factual Geotechnical Data, (c) General Earthworks and Materials recommendations and (d) General and Specific Founding Recommendations including design charts for estimating settlement of foundations placed on in-situ soil, on rock or on terrace fill materials.
