Jones & Wagener was appointed by BECSA (Billiton Energy Coal South Africa) as one of three EPCMs on the Douglas Middleburg Optimisation Project (DMO). J&W was responsible for the geotechnical investigations of all the infrastructure and the design and construction management of 5 contract packages that ran simultaneously.

    • Haul roadsR
    • ROM Stockpiles
    • Contractors camps
    • Conveyor Earthwork
  • Water Management system
    • Canals
    • 3 Attenuation Berms
    • Pollution control dam 
  • Slurry Disposal Dams and a Water Balancing Dam
  • Conveyor Civils infrastructure and ROM Tip 
  • Workshops Complex Upgrade 

The project cost was well above 1 billion Rand, and the project has been completed successfully in 33 months. Challenges included accommodating continuing mining activities, a very tight schedule that also had to accommodate significant scope changes.
