The Chloorkop G:L:B- site is an active site situated in Chloorkop, Midrand. Cells 1 to 4 have reached capacity and only two cells remain active with final closure anticipated in 2014. Jones & Wagener were appointed by Enviroserv to design and supervise the construction for the capping of the closed cells.
The capping of Cells 1-4 took place in 2009 rather than at the end of the site life with the following benefits: reduction in leachate generation, reduction in contaminated stormwater catchment, improved landfill gas capture and erosion control through vegetation. The rehabilitation and closure fund provided by Enviroserv for the site made it possible for the capping to take place.
